OUR BELIEFS
Alsbury is structured around the five key functions of the church as modeled in the New Testament: Worship, Discipleship, Fellowship, Ministry, and Missions. These five purposes are found in the Great Commandment (Matthew 22:37-40) and the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20). It is Alsbury's desire to be a healthy and well-balanced church that grows...
- Warmer through fellowship
- Deeper through discipleship
- Stronger through worship
- Broader through ministry
- Larger through evangelism
About God: God is the creator and ruler of the universe and all things. He exists in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God. (Gen. 1:1, 26-27; Ps. 90:2; Mt. 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Cor. 13:14)
About Jesus Christ: Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on the cross. After three days, He arose from the dead to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to be with the Father to one day return to earth to reign and reestablish His Kingdom here on earth. (Mt. 1:22-23; Is. 9:6; Jn 1:1-5; Heb. 4:14-15; 1 Cor. 15:3-4; Rom. 1:3-4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Tim. 6:14-15; Titus 2:13)
About the Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and Jesus, the Son of God. He is present in the world today to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He provides believers with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing that which is right. As Christians, we seek to live under His control daily and rely on the Spirit for guidance. (2 Cor. 3:17; Jn. 16:7-13; 14:16-17; Acts 1:8; 1 Cor. 2:12, 3:16; Eph. 1:13, 5:18; Gal. 5:25)
About the Bible: The Bible is God’s sovereign Word to man. It was written by human authors, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, as the source of truth for Christian beliefs and the guide to Christian living. Because it is God-inspired, it is the truth without error. (2 Tim. 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21; 2 Tim. 1:13; Ps. 12:6, 119:105, 119:160; Pr. 30:5)
About Salvation: Salvation is God’s free gift to those who chose to accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement, actions, or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ and receiving God’s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from the penalty of sin. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into their life by faith. (Rom. 6:23; Eph. 2:8-9; Jn. 1:12, 14:6; Titus 3:5; Gal. 3:26; Rom. 5:1)
About the Church: We believe that the body of Christ consists of all believers regardless of organizational affiliation or denomination. We believe in the observance of water baptism, as instructed by Christ and described within the New Testament as an act of outward obedience. We also observe the Lord’s Supper as a remembrance of Jesus Christ's sacrifice upon the cross. (Col. 1:18; Eph. 4:4-6; Acts 1:5, 11:15-16; 1 Cor. 12:13; 1 Thess. 4:13-17; Mt. 16:18, 28:19; 1 Cor. 11:24-26)
