MEET OUR STAFF
Alsbury is blessed to have such an amazing staff. It is very clear that their passion is to know God intimately and make Him known. If ever you need to talk or have questions, please feel free to contact any one of them.
Scott Sharman - Senior Pastor
Scott has been pastor of Alsbury since the founding of the church in October of 1994.
He and his wife, Phyllis, have two grown children; Amanda and Landon. They also have a grandson; Brayden.
Scott has a passion for the outdoors. To say that he loves to hunt and fish would be a significant understatement. His favorite aspect of time outside is that family and good friends are typically included.
Marty Strayhorn - Discipleship Pastor
Marty joined the staff of Alsbury in September of 2009. He works with the adult Bible study groups, the Connect groups, and anything else related to adult discipleship.
He and his wife Christy were married on June 6, 1976 and they have an awesome son named Jeff.
Marty loves reading, gardening, fishing, and camping. He especially loves fly fishing in the beautiful mountainous small streams of northern New Mexico.
Brock DeWald - Worship Pastor
Brock came on staff at Alsbury Baptist Church in May of 2009 as the Worship Pastor. He oversees the music, drama, video, and tech ministries of our worship experience.
He and his wife, Jordan, were married in 2003 and have a little boy that was born in April 2008.
Brock has been a rock-climbing instructor, loves to hunt and fish, and would never wear shoes if he could. Although unskilled at both, Brock enjoys playing disc golf and video games, and he invites the company anytime.
Brian Jennings - Teens' Pastor
Brian Jennings, aka “BJ,” has served as Alsbury’s Teens' Pastor since November of 2006.
He and his wife, Shaunna have been married since 1993 and have 3 children (Evan, Abby and Micah).
BJ loves to hang out and play video games, volleyball, disc golf, 42, Spades, Uno, Uno Attack, Monopoly, Connect Four, etc. He is a serious Dallas Mavericks fan (he cried when they lost to Miami in the finals). He also gets the urge to dance often and loves to hang out with his youth group.
Gene Longley - Children's Pastor
Gene Longley (aka Mr. Gene) has served as Alsbury’s children’s pastor since 1999.
He and his wife Brenda were married in 1997. They have one son named Bryan and are currently in the process of adopting a child from China.
Mr. Gene grew up near St. Louis, Missouri and is a life-long Cardinals fan. During the week you will likely find Mr. Gene writing, filming, or editing videos for children’s worship. Of his many accomplishments, Mr. Gene may be most proud of his ability to sing the Phineas and Ferb theme song.
Brenda Longley - Ministry Assistant
Brenda has served as ministry assistant of Alsbury since 2008.
She and her husband, Gene, were married in 1997. They have one son named Bryan and currently are in the process of adopting a child from China.
Brenda has lived in many places including Japan and Hawaii. Brenda enjoys playing basketball, disc golf and Wii games.
Kendra Cox - Financial Secretary
Kendra first began as the financial secretary in January of 2009.
Kendra has two beautiful children, Hannah and Josh.
Kendra also teaches in the Mother's Day Out program at the church. She can be found most Sundays in the counting room, assisting with the weekly deposit.
She enjoys scrapbooking, movies, playing games with the kids, and spending time with friends and family.
Summer Garcia - Mother's Day Out Director
In August 2009, Summer became the director of ABC Mother’s Day Out.
She grew up in Burleson and married her high school sweetheart, Joel Garcia. They have three children who attend Hughes Middle School and Burleson High School.
